How long should sea bass be steamed?
Bass is usually cooked after steaming for about 8 minutes.
Need water to boil the pot. It depends on the size of the bass:
1. Generally, for 1-2 pounds of seabass, steam it for 8 minutes in boiling water and it will be cooked. Because the meat of sea bass is compact and thick, it will be heated slightly slower than ordinary fish. It needs to be steamed for 8 minutes to be cooked. Steamed fish itself has high protein, so in order to avoid water loss, it is best to steam it in hot water;
2. Generally speaking, for 2-3 pounds of seabass, boil the water and steam it for 10 minutes and it will be cooked. Because the heavier the bass, the thicker the meat, the slower it will be heated, so it is recommended that the bass weighing more than 2 pounds be steamed in a pot for at least 10 minutes before eating;
3. Generally, steaming is not recommended for seabass weighing more than 3 pounds. If you insist on steaming, it is better to boil the water and steam it for about 12 minutes. Because the back of a 3-pound sea bass is very thick and has no bones to conduct heat, it will heat relatively slowly. It is recommended to cut the back with a knife to increase the heating area before steaming.
Steamed seabass must be steamed with hot water, not cold water. The reasons are as follows:
1. The meat of sea bass steamed in cold water becomes old. Because fish steamed in cold water heats too slowly, the meat of seabass will be severely dehydrated due to long-term steaming during the steaming process, causing the meat to become stale and have a poor taste after steaming.
2. Seabass steamed in cold water tastes fishy. Because the cold water steaming of sea bass takes too long, the meat of the sea bass has already been set a lot before the water is boiled during the steaming process. Therefore, the fishy smell in the fish cannot be taken away by the water vapor and remains in the fish. The final steamed fish has a natural fishy smell. Heavy and unpalatable.
